Swirlyhues November

Bloom {Spring in our Yard}

I love this month's palette. I used a lot of pretties such as the DA frame, which I painted with Distress Ink, Twinkling H2Os and Magical Micas from Lindy's.

I lightly rubbed the birds with Distress Inks.

I used Lisa V's stone turtorial (found here: Lisa's Faux Stone) on the Grungeboard key. Much like the Petaloo CMC line, it has texture so it did well with this tutorial. It is an easy to follow and fun tutorial!

I used Lindy's Starburst Mist, Glimmer Mist and TH New Gathered Twigs.

I also used the stitching tutorial here: Camilla's Sewing Tutorial.

Simple! :D

Thanks for looking!

Swirlydoos Round Robin Week 2

This is my layout for October's go of Round Robin at Swirlydoos.

This summer has been hot hot hot and we finally got our break and traveled to St. Louis to visit my sister and my mom and dad. They have a great zoo there and it's FREE!

This is the penguin house, it is inside and COLD.

I will have more animal los coming your way!

I didn't really do any new techniques, just trying to get back into the groove of scrapping
after my hiatus.

I did use some new Distress Stains and they are awesome!

Love the colors of the Midnight Waltz October kit!!

Thanks to everyone who is enjoying the new blog look!

I never thought I would have 100 people who would even want to glance this way!

I am planning a surprise, so be on the lookout over the next week or so.

:)

The above layout is for the SGC Misting, Masking and Gesso.

Of course, I love all these mediums so this wasn't a challenge as much as a delight for me!

I used the Gesso to prime all the DA pieces for painting. I do this a lot with DA because it
is so porous. The gesso really helps the paint stick.

I misted the over the matching mask (that I just happen to have) on the TA tag.

I used a couple of crackle stamps that I am not sure the manufacturer of. I know, I am bad! They may be Prima.

I used the paper from Retro Tapestry. I love the bright fun colors of these gorgeous papers!

Anyway, this is me finally almost 100% recovered after my laparotomy. For those that don't know, in June I had my right ovary removed. What is supposed to be the size of a walnut, was about the size of a newborn's head! My ovary had ballooned to almost 7 inches, so it had to go.

I had my c-section scar reopened (and then some) in order to get it out and weeks of recovery.

Please see your doctors yearly ladies!

Swirlydoos Vintage Fae Sketch Challenge

For the July kit sketch challenge, I chose this adorable (I know I am biased) picture of Kassidy.

I love the Mistable alphabet set! SO cute!! It can go with a lot of different layouts.

On the DA circle, I used Gesso to prime it, then a coat of Gloss Mod Podge, then a generous sprinkle of Fairy Dust Glitter in Pralines N Cream then another coat of Mod Podge.

On the filters, I used the matching stamps for the Butterfly Garden paper set, I stamped with Versamark ink, then used Perfect Pearls and Magical Micas to bring out the stamp. After the stamps dried, I hit them with a little mist.

Thanks for looking!

SO, after a LOOOOONG break from scrapping and recovery from my laparotomy, I am BACK!

I am having a shoe hoarding moment. So, I thought I would scrap about it.
I love wedges, and this lo is my ode to wedges!

I painted the O title piece with Distress inks and stains.

I used Vintage Photo Distress ink on the brown book-page papers.
I used Starburst Mists on the background in Baby Blue Eyes Aqua.

I LOVE Lindy's Stamp Gang products. Their sprays don't clog and for a vintage look, I use the Moon Shadow Mists, but for a brighter bold look, I use the Starburst Mists.
I also love the Mica powders!

I used a few Prima flowers as accents, some Dusty Attic chipboard and Tattered Angels chipboard as well.

Thanks for stopping by!

Apologies!

To my followers!!

I have neglected my poor poor blog for so long!

I will revamp it (I hatred that template) and post some new layouts.

This is only a temporary look!

Thanks! More to come!

Dancer

My last official DT layout for Scraps of Darkness.

My sister took and taught dance for years. These pictures are from her teaching days.

I used the April kit, Foundations for this layout.

The single velvet ribbon is ruched to fit around the circle.

I used Smooch Illuminate over the foam Thickers to give them a shine.

Thanks for looking everyone! I appreciate my followers and I will be uploading new layouts as often as I can!

Scraps Of Darkness REVEAL Day!

My boys, looking way too cool!

This is based on the sketch for April by Charlotte aka Suepup.

I covered the timepiece clocks with clear embossing powder just for a little gloss and dimension.

I love the big apple tree in our yard. When it blooms I try to go out and take pics as soon as I can because with the OK winds, they don't hang on long! But, it does make our yard look like a fairy land of petals.

I switched up the colors a bit on this one.

Ahhh, Captain Jack Sparrow! Am I excited about this new adventure? YES! The pin that Mandy crafted seemed to come right out of his hair. ;)

My little boy on a trip to Houston with us years ago. I wanted to use the moss here as it created a TON of texture to the lo! I used a TH sticker as a label for the bottle.

Hello and WELCOME to reveal day at Scraps of Darkness!

I wanted to take a quick moment here to thank Melinda for giving me the opportunity to design for her these past months, it has been an amazing and eye opening experience!

This is my last month to design for SOD and I know that the team in place will rock out pages like no other! Sadly, time constraints are preventing me from continuing to design.

On to the kit:

This month's kit features the BRAND NEW Bo Bunny Timepiece line. A gorgeous array of golds, browns and reds that works for boys, girls, heritage and pirate pages! ;)

The color addon features Shimmerz Spritz and Perfect Pearls mists along with three Shimmerz pots. Fun for painting!

I used inks to change up or highlight the colors in this kit.

Apparently, my Tim Holtz mask jumped out at me to use with this as I used it twice!

The little bottles are so great. And I LOVED the Tim Holtz Idea-ology stickers! Alphabets, butterflies, school images and other odds and ends!

The ZVA is very pretty and I have a lo in the works that I wish was done, but it isn't, so I will post it in a week or so.

Misty Embossing

I wanted to go ahead and post this tutorial to get any mojo started! :D

This is a SUPER easy way to emboss WITHOUT embossing ink...yes, that is right!

First, I cut out the flowers with my Cricut. You can use whatever you like, this works well with card stock.

For this layout, I used the sort of dusty rose colored card stock, I misted it with Moon Shadow Mist in Gossamer Gold and Starburst Mist in Wild Honey Coral.

While still wet, I sprinkled the Lindy's Gold Embossing Powder over the flowers and let it sit a moment. I lightly tapped of the excess and heated. It gives a random embossed effect to the petals!

Vintage Revelry

Reveal DAY! :D

I am so excited to reveal the Scraps of Darkness march kit, Vintage Revelry!

I had a fun time working with kit, I definitely went with the vintage theme of all the gorgeous Paper Loft and G45 papers.

If you snagged the color add-on, count yourself LUCKY! These mists are my new favorites!

I have used the Moon Shadow Mists before, they all spray on brown, then, as they dry, you see the top color develop. The new ones that I hadn't tried and now LOVE are the Starburst Mists. Made by the same company, they are also two-toned, but much brighter. They are incredibly gorgeous and I couldn't stop misting everything in sight! :D

Mandy made a gorgeous, sparkly pin for us this month, thanks Mandy!

The Romance add-on included some fabulous Kaisercraft wooden birdcages and a great set of Basic Grey bling.

All in all, probably my favorite kit so far!

So, get on over to Scraps Of Darkness and get yours today!

I am going to go ahead and post all the pictures here now, then as the month goes on, I will explain my Distress Embossing technique that I used on the birdcages and flowers.

I wanted to play around with color for a bit!

I made all the flowers, I printed the flourish stickers, punched the edges, cut the leaves and the big butterfly plus title and flowers with my Cricut!

The shiny cs is American Crafts foil card stock, it is awesome! I used a bit of Sun Kissed Smooch Spritz on the leaves and title.

Winter Magic Reveal!

I know this was supposed to be all winter white, but the color add on was so great with the Romance addon, I had to use a lot of colors!

Most scrappers use the front of Websters Pages, but I love the backs too!

I dyed the Tim Holtz ribbon with Shimmerz Spritz Melon Madness.

The tea roses from Prima were in the October kit.

I cut the leaves with stamps from Heartfelt Creations, then I colored them with Distress Ink and Distress Stickles.

Scraps Of Darkness Reveal Day!

Scraps of Darkness REVEAL Day!

*clap clap clap*

So, this month, Mel has given us something different to play with, light whites and magical greens and purples with jewels!

Mandy has a great sketch this month.

I used the flower ribbon on a card stock base to make sure it stayed as a circle. I painted each flower with Glimmer Glaze in Northern Lights; part of the Color Add-On.

I inked the Parisian Anthology paper with Distress Ink, Crushed Olive and Forest Moss.

The pictures are some I found of my mom (top right), her sister and my grandma and grandpa. Both my aunt and grandpa died before I was born and this is the first picture I have ever seen of him. I had to scrap it!

I used a bit of Distress Crackle Paint in Rock candy over the Bo Bunny letters just to give a bit of textural interest, then I sprayed the letters with some Shimmerz Spritz in Princess (purple).

I also used the Shimmerz on the background, just a random spray here and there for fun.

Gotta LOVE Websters!

MORE to come! :D
